Within 5 years, the Board of HEDC envisions the Corporation to have a portfolio of 10-15 highly successful, professionally run businesses that provide the community with:
- money (distributed by the Reversionary Trust)
- employment opportunities (in the businesses and within Corporation)
- opportunities to learn – build the capacity of band members (transfer of skills, succession plans, small businesses etc.)
- services that are needed to build a thriving prosperous future
- excellent customer service
The HEDC is recognized by members of the community, the HTC, Government, industry and other stakeholders for:
- Providing a profitable, highly efficient and effective operation,
- Providing an ever increasing amount of money to the community via the Reversionary Trust,
- Being a highly effective, efficient, transparent and accountable partner,
- Their capacity and capability to work effectively to build existing businesses, and
- Their ability to recognize and build on new opportunities arising from government to government negotiations,
Members of the Corporation are regularly sought to provide advice to others wishing to establish a similar model. In fact, HEDC has created a small consulting business, working with other Bands to help facilitate the process of establishing economic development structures that work for them.
