 Lois-Anne Arnold

Lois-Anne has a Bachelor of Education degree, a Master of Arts degree in social anthropology, and a professional law degree (LLB). She worked as a lawyer in Calgary for 12 years before moving to Bella Bella. As a lawyer, Lois-Anne worked in a shared practice with four other lawyers and built her law practice from the ground up. Since moving to Bella Bella in 2003, Lois-Anne has worked as an instructor and more recently as an administrator at the Heiltsuk College. As an educator, Lois-Anne believes strongly in the value of a good education. She believes that young people must have the proper skills and training to be able to take advantage of the new opportunities that will result from this economic initiative.

 

Larry Jorgenson

Larry Jorgenson has lived in Bella Bella for thirty years. He has a master’s degree in community organization and development and has worked on behalf of the Heiltsuk community in many capacities. Since 1999 he has been the director of Qqs (Eyes) Projects Society, a non-profit society which supports Heiltsuk youth, culture, and environment. Larry has been an advocate for the sustainable use of our resources for many years and supports our Hemas as the holders of rights and title to all Heiltsuk lands and resources. He believes strongly that we need to invest in our youth in order for them to develop the passion and understanding they will need to be the next generation of leaders. Larry has served on many community boards and is a consultant to the Heiltsuk Restorative Justice Program.


James Richardson

James Richardson, CEO

James is from the Mi’kmaq First nation from Pabineau, New Brunswick. Jim was National Director of Aboriginal Banking with the Business Development Bank of Canada for ten years. In that capacity he was instrumental in the establishment of many new aboriginal businesses in Canada, including the program to encourage aboriginal youth to participate in business planning. Prior to that, he spent three years as Vice President of Aboriginal Services with the Canadian Executive Service Organization (CESO), which provides business advice and planning to many First Nations bands across Canada and in foreign countries. Jim also spent five years with INAC, where he served as Director of Finance and Administration in Manitoba. Jim developed his strong leadership skills starting as a Private and rising to a Major in the Canadian Armed Forces, running a procurement agency in Germany. He has a certificate in Business Administration from UNB, a Bachelor of Commerce degree from University of Calgary, and a MBA from Queen’s University.


 

Kelly Brown

Kelly Brown was born in Bella Bella and spent most of his life in the community except for his post secondary education. Kelly achieved a Bachelor of Education degree from UBC in 1993 and a Master of Arts degree in Applied Community Change and Conservation from Future Generations College in West Virginia in 2005. He served six terms as a Tribal Councilor for the Heiltsuk and served as Senior Treaty Negotiator for 6 years until the process was halted in 2001. He currently works as a consultant with special interest in Land Use Planning and implementation.


Mike Reid
Mike Reid

Mike Reid is a long time resident of Bella Bella. He has lived in the community since the age of 12 when he left for Vancouver to complete his high school education. Mike is a certified carpenter and a commercial fisherman with experience on salmon, halibut, herring, snapper, tuna and shrimp fisheries. Mike has been involved with many housing projects and helped build the fish plant. For the past six years he has worked for the Heiltsuk Fisheries Program and serves as its Director.
